2010 Monroe Sports Center Fall League–Results–Week Eight–November 3rd
- South Brunswick 53–Hunterdon Central 51 3OT–This was perhaps the most exciting game GMC Hoops has covered all fall with the Vikings rallying from six points down with about two minutes left to force overtime. Both teams each scored a basket in the first overtime, and then the Vikes appeared to have the game won in the second extra session with a 50-44 lead with 58.3 seconds left, and a 51-46 edge with 43.5 to go, but the Red Devils rallied to force a second overtime with a three pointer in the waning moments to tie things up at 51-51. Finally, Chris Bourne hit the game winning shot on a jumper off a pass from Malik Davis-Bey as time ran out in the third overtime. South Brunswick overcame 19 turnovers that Hunterdon Central converted into 17 points. Senior Josh Varughese led SBHS with a team high 13 points on a perfect 4 of 4 shooting from the floor including a three pointer, and 4 of 6 from the line while also pulling down four rebounds and swiping a steal. Michael Green had a tough shooting night, but still managed to chip in with 10 points, 6 assists, 3 steals, and 2 rebounds. Moses Railey added 9 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal while Bourne contributed with 8 points and 12 boards. Davis-Bey scored all four of his points during the overtime periods and also collected 5 rebounds, an assist, steal, and a charge.
- J.F. Kennedy 56–Marlboro 47–The Mustangs fell behind 8-0 in the early going, but eventually came back to trail at the half by only one, and then took the lead for good with 7:40 to go in the contest on back to back three pointers by A.J. Pichalski and Jordan Toczynski. Pichalski hit his first six shots of the game, and ended up with a monster double-double with 17 points on 7 of 10 shooting from the floor including a three, and 2 of 3 from the foul line while pulling down 19 rebounds and blocking 4 shots. Toczynski chipped in with 12 points, 6 assists, 3 steals, 2 rebounds, and a block. Kennedy scored 11 points off of 15 Marlboro turnovers and 12 second chance points off of 21 offensive rebounds. JFK, which outscored Marlboro by a margin of 30-20 in the second half, also did a better job of taking care of the basketball in the final 20 minutes with only five turnovers. Kennedy still managed to win this battle of Mustangs despite being outscored 21-12 from beyond the arc.
- Rumson-Fair Haven 52–Monroe 45–The Bulldogs from Monmouth County led 41-30 with 13:26 remaining, and 48-35 with 8:38 to play before Monroe rallied with a 10-0 over a span of 7:05 to pull within three after an offensive rebound and follow by Ryan Stolte with 1:33 to play. The Falcons just missed tying the game moments later when Victor Sorrento battled for a steal that eventually got into the hands of Ryan Genevieve from Mike Mahmoud, but Genevieve’s three pointer didn’t fall at the 1:19 mark, and Rumson sealed the win with two free throws at the 24.2 second mark, and another pair of charity shots with 17.4 seconds left for the 52-45 victory.
- South River 32–Notre Dame 28–The Rams came up with a nice win by beating the Irish. South River led 27-22 with 4:54 remaining before Notre Dame rallied with a 6-0 run over a span of 3:41 to take a 28-27 edge with 1:13 to play. However, Tyler Harris gave the Rams the lead for good with a layup from Tim Huff at the 1:03 mark, and then his teammates sealed the win with one of two free throws, and an offensive rebound and putback as time expired.
- West Windsor-Plainsboro 68–South Amboy 44–The Guvs played tough early on as they only trailed 14-12, but West Windsor-Plainsboro closed the half with an 11-6 run for a 25-18 lead, and then blew the game open in the second half with a 15-2 spurt to lead 40-20 at one point. The Mercer County team then added a 13-5 tear for a 53-25 lead, and cruised from there for the 24 point victory.
