February 28, 2011 on 11:27 pm | In North Brunswick Hoops, Video Highlights | Comments OffHere are video highlights from the final 10:32 of the opening round game between 14th seeded Pennsauken and 3rd seeded North Brunswick in the 2011 NJSIAA Central Jersey Group IV State Tournament at NBTHS on Monday night. The Raiders held a 49-42 lead with 2:32 to go in the third quarter, but didn’t let the Indians get closer than six points in the contest. North Brunswick went on a key 10-3 spurt in the fourth period to take a 60-47 lead with a bit more than five minutes to go. Senior Tait Pirkle had a layup while junior Chance Gadsden, who ended the third period with 3 of 4 from the foul line, added two scores to highlight the run. The Raiders advance to the quarterfinals to play either sixth seeded Trenton, or 11th seeded Montgomery.

Video Highlights–St. Joseph’s vs. Piscataway–GMCT Championship–February 25, 2011
February 28, 2011 on 8:44 am | In St. Joseph's Hoops, Video Highlights, Piscataway Hoops | Comments OffHere are video highlights from the 2011 Greater Middlesex Conference Championship Game between second seeded St. Joseph’s and top seeded Piscataway on Friday night. The Falcons got 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 blocks from junior Quenton DeCosey while Danny Brix chipped in with 11 points including a huge three near the end of the third quarter for a 36-24 lead. Kevin Mayce scrapped his way to 8 points while James Ziemba, Jimbo Long, Nick Straughn, Kevin Waitikowich, and Brandon Dolan also made contributions in the 51-43 victory. Tajae Sharpe led P-Way with 9 points despite having foul trouble while Vik Singh and Thierno Diallo each added 8 in a losing cause.
Video Highlights–Edison vs. St. Joseph’s-Green–Perth Amboy Freshmen Tournament–Semifinalls–February 22, 2011
February 25, 2011 on 11:56 pm | In Star-Ledger College Summer League, Video Highlights, Edison Hoops | Comments OffHere are video highlights from St. Joseph’s-Green victory over Edison in the semifinal round of the 2011 Perth Amboy/GMC Freshmen Tournament on Tuesday. St. Joseph’s had a 30-26 lead at the half, but clamped down defensively, and outscored Edison by a 27-12 margin in the second half for the 57-38 victory. Brandon Bielak led the Little Falcons with 18 points including 12 in the first half while teammate Matt Olivo chipped in with 14 points including 9 in the second half. Edison was led by forward, Jalen Jackson, who had a team high 17 points.
Video Highlights–Cardinal McCarrick vs. St. Joseph’s–GMCT Final Four–February 23, 2011
February 24, 2011 on 3:13 pm | In St. Joseph's Hoops, Video Highlights, Cardinal McCarrick Hoops | Comments OffHere are video highlights from the final 10:30 of play between Cardinal McCarrick and St. Joseph’s in the semifinal round of the 2011 Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament. Both Quenton DeCosey and Danny Brix scored 16 points each with Brix scoring seven of his points in the fourth quarter including the last six of the game to give St. Joe’s a hard fought, 47-42 victory. McCarrick had taken a 42-41 lead with 1:22 left on two free throws by freshman Marques Townes, but Brix drew a foul, and hit both ends of the bonus for a 43-42 lead. He then got a steal off of former Monroe teammate, Ahmid Williams, and went in for a layup to take a 45-42 lead. After a DeCosey block on Williams at the 51.2 second mark, and two misses on front ends of one and ones, the Falcons were able to seal the victory as Brix made two from the charity stripe with just over 7 seconds left.
GMC Hoops Play-By-Play–Bishop Ahr vs. Piscataway–GMCT Final Four–February 23, 2011
February 23, 2011 on 10:22 pm | In Bishop Ahr Hoops, Piscataway Hoops | Comments OffSOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ–Well, once again, my wireless device lost battery power, and I was not able to give more updates from the second semifinal between Bishop Ahr and Piscataway. The Chiefs got 10 straight points from junior Tajae Sharpe and a clutch three pointer in the fourth quarter by Greg Davis to pull out a hard fought, 53-44 victory. Here is the play-by-play.
First Quarter
Piscataway jumped out to a 9-2 lead before Dillon Salva connected on a field goal that got a kind bounce, and then Ryan Blakely hit a three. Vik Singh hit a three pointer for a five point lead at 12-7, but then Roger Kilgore scored a basket to close the gap to three at the end of a quarter. Greg Davis hit a jumper and a three for five points in the quarter for P-Way.
Second Quarter
3:45 to go in the half–Piscataway leads 19-15. Ahr had gotten a score from Dillon Salva to take a 13-12 lead, but then the Chiefs scored six of the next eight points as Greg Davis splashed two threes. Davis has 11 points including three treys for P-Way.
2:54–Chiefs have scored five of the last seven points for a 23-17 lead including a drive for a layup by Thierno Diallo.
0:17–Piscataway calls a timeout…Chiefs still lead by six at 27-21.
0:00–We go to the half with Piscataway leading 27-21. Blakely missed a three point attempt, and Herbie Donerson was unable to get a shot off in time to end the half.
Third Quarter
5:23–Piscataway calls timeout…Bishop Ahr got one of two free throws from Dillon Salva for a 27-24 Chiefs lead.
4:55–P-Way–Vik Singh drew a charge on Rashad Kilgore after BGA got a steal by Ryan Blakely.
4:36–P-Way–gets jump ball.
4:27–P-Way–turns the ball over. Pass by Jelani Jackson to Tajae Sharpe goes out of bounds.
4:15–BGA–Kenny Virden scores on a layin off a give and go with Rashad Kilgore for a 27-26 P-Way lead.
3:54–BGA–Roger Kilgore scores a layin as he is fouled, but missed the bonus free throw for a 28-27 lead…First Ahr lead of the game.
2:32–BGA–retakes the lead as Salva fakes up, takes a dribble, and sinks a baseline jumper for a 30-29 score.
1:56–BGA–Salva strikes again as he scores down low while being fouled for a three point play, and Ahr’s biggest lead at 33-29.
1:27–P-Way–timeout after Thierno Diallo sinks short jumper from left side for a 33-31 Ahr lead. Trojans zone defense is causing some trouble for Chiefs.
1:07–P-Way–trying to step it up on the defensive end, and it gets results as Diallo swipes a steal, but he can’t score.
24.2–BGA–Blakely at the line..Trojans now in the bonus…Blakely sinks both for a 35-31 lead.
0.0–P-Way–Shot by Singh can’t fall, and BGA leads 35-31 after three.
Fourth Quarter
5:01–BGA–calls timeout…P-Way opens fourth with a 9-2 run…all nine points scored by Sharpe including a three at the 7:34, a jumper after the Chiefs drew a charge at the 7:06 mark, a drive through the middle for a layup, and then a basket and a foul. Sharpe made the bonus free throw after the timeout for 10 points in the quarter.
4:04–P-Way–Davis buries a three pointer from the right side for a 44-37 lead.
3:28–P-Way–Jackson sinks two free throws for a 46-37 lead. Ahr missed two front ends of one and ones during this stretch and only have two points in the quarter.
2:32–P-Way–timeout–follows another drive to the hoop by Sharpe for a 48-40 lead. Roger Kilgore had made one of two from the foul line, and Kevin Douyan banked in a shot as he was fouled, but missed the bonus free throw. Ahr is one of five from the lline over the last several minutes.
1:49–BGA–Blakely makes one of two from the foul line for a 48-41 P-Way lead.
1:21–BGA–timeout. Following timeout…P-Way–Davis makes one of two from the line for a 49-41 lead.
1:12–BGA–Roger Kilgore makes one of two from the line. P-Way leads 49-42.
48.6–BGA–Pat Widdoss sinks two free throws for a 49-44 P-Way lead.
37.2–P-Way–Jackson makes a pair of foul shots for a 51-44 lead.
27.4–P-Way–timeout.
26.5–P-Way–Jackson sinks two more free throws for a 53-44 lead.
0.0–P-Way wins 53-46 after a Salva layin in the waning moments.

Video Highlights–Perth Amboy vs. St. Joseph’s–GMCT Elite Eight–February 20, 2011
February 23, 2011 on 9:34 pm | In St. Joseph's Hoops, Video Highlights, Perth Amboy Hoops | Comments OffHere are video highlights from St. Joseph’s 72-62 victory over Perth Amboy in the quarterfinal round of the 2011 Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament on Sunday at Middlesex County College. Junior swingman, Quenton DeCosey tied a career high with 38 points including three dunks. Perth Amboy did battle though. Trailing 25-11 early in the third, the Panthers went on an 8-3 run including a trey by senior guard, Kearny Canela to draw within eight at the intermission. Then, Amboy began the second half with a 16-7 run including seven points by sophomore guard, Jonathan Rodriguez to tie the score at 35-35. St. Joe’s would take control again, but the Panthers persisted with another run that drew them within three at 52-49 early in the fourth. The Falcons were able to pull away though for the 10 point win.
Video Highlights–South Brunswick vs. Piscataway–GMCT Elite Eight–February 20, 2011
February 23, 2011 on 12:15 pm | In South Brunswick Hoops, Video Highlights, Piscataway Hoops | Comments OffHere are video highlights from Piscataway’s 52-43 victory over South Brunswick in the Quarterfinal Round of the 2011 Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament. Junior point guard, Jelani Jackson, scored a career high 17 points as the Chiefs jumped out to a 9-0 lead, and got timely three point shots at the end of the first half and third quarter from junior swingman Greg Davis to keep South Brunswick at bay before sealing the win with solid free throw shooting down the stretch. Junior Tajae Sharpe had a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Chiefs while Kory Sanders led the Vikings with 14 points. Mike Green and Chris Bourne also chipped in for SBHS with 11 points each. Enjoy.

Kennedy and fourth seeded Bishop Ahr in the quarterfinal round of the 2011 Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament on Sunday afternoon at Middlesex County College. The Trojans of Bishop Ahr got off to a slow start trailing 7-1 within the first few minutes of the game, but was able to overcome the 24 point effort of JFK’s Daishon Robinson to win 69-57 behind a team high 19 points by Pat Widdoss.
Video Highlights–Cardinal McCarrick vs. East Brunswick–GMCT Elite Eight–February 20, 2011
February 22, 2011 on 11:38 pm | In Video Highlights, Cardinal McCarrick Hoops, East Brunswick Hoops | Comments OffHere are video highlights from the final 5:22 of the 2011 Greater Middlesex Conference Quarterfinal game between sixth seeded Cardinal McCarrick and third seeded East Brunswick at Middlesex County College on Sunday. The Bears took a 54-48 lead on two foul shots by Rob Ukawuba and a layup by Abu Bestawros, but McCarrick rallied back with a 12-3 run including a layup and three pointer by Jeremy Cruz, a steal for a layup and two free throws by Marques Townes. Anthony Guisti tied the game for EB with a three from the right wing with 5.2 seconds left, but Townes took a pass from Charlie Gorman for the game winning layup as time expired in McCarrick’s 64-62 victory.
