The Rams got on the board first, but Keansburg scored 7 of the next 8 points, and eventually took a 17-7 lead early in the second period en route to a 50-36 victory. Tyler Walters led the way for the Titans with a game high 17 points including all three of his team’s treys while Dan Markulin added 14. Tyler Harris led South River in a losing cause with a team high 13 points. Keansburg improved to 4-0 on the season, which is one of the best starts in school history.
GMC Hoops Highlights–December 29, 2011–Nutley vs. Old Bridge–Cougars vs. Cancer Tourney

The Knights led 34-22 in the third quarter before the Raiders rallied with a 17-4 tear over a span of 9:16 to take a 39-38 lead with 3:02 remaining. However, after a couple more lead changes, Old Bridge took the lead for good with two scores by senior forward Isaiah Velez, and sophomore guard and All Tournament Selection Tyler Drews, who scored a game high 20 points, sealed the 48-43 win with some late free throws.

The Patriots of Amboy Tech, led by senior forward Rashad Adams with 22 points and 15 rebounds, had a 64-52 lead, and didn’t let the Tigers of E.B. Tech get any closer than 10 points in the last four and a half minutes en route to a 71-58 victory.
Also helping out for the winners was Malcolm Batts with 17 points and 7 rebounds, Saul Rosa with 12 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals, Kelvin Perez with 11 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds, and 4 steals, and Wilfredo Nieves with 8 points, 10 rebounds, 5 steals, 4 assists, and a block. Leading the way in a losing cause for E.B. Tech was Dequan Calimese with 23 points while teammate Mike Hardy added 19 and Branden Lenahan chipped in with 11.

The Cardinals jumped out to a 15-2 lead in the first quarter, but Robeson battled back to tie the game up at 45-45 with 6:10 to play. However, Plainfield tightened up on defense, and put together a 15-6 spurt to end the game. Senior forward and Yale bound Justin Sears picked things up defensively at both ends of the floor with several blocked shots, and dunks to put the game out of reach.

In the second game, Piscataway took on St. Benedict’s. The Grey Bees, ranked second in the NJ Hoops Top 50, jumped out to a 17-3 lead and that was the difference in a 68-54 victory. The Chiefs played spirited for the final three plus quarters and got as close as eight early in the third, but St. Bennies closed the game with a 33-27 showing for the win. Tajae Sharpe shined for P-Way with a team high 20 points including six threes. Below is the play-by-play from the game.

Spotswood jumped out to a 38-22 lead late in the first half only to have the hometown Crusaders rally with a 25-9 surge over an 8:23 span to tie the game at 47-47 after three periods. However, in the final frame, the Chargers came up with a 21-13 showing including good foul shooting to come away with the 68-60 victory.
