WEST ORANGE, NJ–The first game seen by GMC Hoops at the Hoop Group Tip-Off Classic from West Orange High School on Saturday was between Linden and Christian Brothers Academy. Linden ended the first half with an 11-0 run, and closed the game with a 20-2 tear to emerge victorious over CBA, 51-41. Sophomore Quadri Moore led the way for the TIgers with a team high 13 points. Below are the notes from the game:
First Quarter
Arrive with under three minutes to go in the first quarter, and CBA leading by the score of 10-9. Â The Colts scapped for a loose ball with the Tigers, and called for time with 1:30 left in the period. Â
Moore scored on a hook shot as he was fouled with 30.6 seconds to go in the period, but missed the bonus free throw. Â CBA would take the lead going into the second at 12-11 on a layup with two seconds remaining in the period.
Second Quarter
Linden calls for a 30 second timeout with 3:59 to go in the first half. Â CBA just made two free throws for a 19-14 lead. Â The foul shots capped a 7-3 spurt ignited by a layup to open the quarter.
CBA calls timeout after Linden goes on an 8-0 tear that included a three pointer from the right wing, and a conventional three point play to take a 22-19 lead with 20.8 seconds to go in the first half.
Third Quarter
Linden opened up the period with a layup for a 26-22 lead, but CBA battled back with a 13-5 tear to end the third for a 35-31 lead. Â The Colts netted two threes during the run to take a 29-28 lead. Â After CBA got another score for a three point advantage. Â Moore connected on a trey from the left corner to knot things up at 31-31. Â Christian Brothers then ended the period with two scores for a 35-31 edge heading into the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
CBA opened the period with four of the first six points including an offensive rebound and follow for a 39-33 lead, but Linden responded with a three from the top of the key, and then a layup to pull within one as CBA called for time with 5:14 remaining.
The Colts called for time at the 1:43 mark after Linden reeled off six straight points includingn the go ahead free throws at the 2:56 mark, a steal for a layup at the 2:30 mark, and then a putback at the 2:00 mark for a 46-41 lead.
Linden calls for time with 52.9 seconds remaining. Â CBA misfires on three attempts from both the right wing and the left wing. Â The Tigers keep giving CBA some life by not using up the clock and taking shots. Â LHS still leads 46-41. Â
The Tigers closed the game with the final five points including two free throws at the 50.5 second mark, and then after getting a steal,Â
