SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ–With a team that has struggled to compete in the GMC White over the past two seasons, South Plainfield’s Lamont Williams did what he could to make the Tigers competitive as possible. Besides leading the Greater Middlesex Conference in three pointers this season with 76, he also led the entire conference in scoring. Averaging 23.2 points per game, Williams edged the next closest scorer by just under a point and a half a game to earn the GMC Hoops Top Scorer of the Year.

Williams, who scored all of his 1,024 points over the final two years of his high school career, raised his scoring average by almost six points per game. He also netted 13 more threes than he did a year ago. In 26 games this season for South Plainfield, Williams compiled 134 field goals, 76 threes, and 104 free throws for a total of 602 points. Last year, he scored 422 points in 24 games. Williams managed to do this against teams such as J.P. Stevens, Colonia, and Woodbridge, which are known for their defense.

As a junior, Williams scored in double figures in 23 of South Plainfield’s 24 games. Of those 23 games, he scored at least 20 points in seven of those contests including his season high of 37 points against Piscataway Tech on January 9th.
