Carteret Holds Off Pesky Monroe to Advance, 51-46

Reaches GMCT Quarterfinals for 2nd Time in Three Years

CARTERET, NJ–For the second time in three years, the Carteret Ramblers are going to New Brunswick High School on the GMCT’s Super Sunday. It wasn’t easy though as the Ramblers had to endure a formidable challenge from a 22nd seeded Monroe team trying to make a Cinderella run.

Isaiah Daniels-Porter collected a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds while teammate Jemar Jordan chipped in with 17 points, 6 rebounds, 5 steals, 3 blocks, and two assists to power the sixth seeded Carteret Ramblers to a 51-46 victory over Monroe in the 2017 Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament’s Round of 16 on Thursday.

Zemar Brake chipped in with 6 points and 3 rebounds while Jalen Harris added 5 points, 3 boards, and 2 steals. Kahir Raymond also contributed with 4 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Eight players got into the game for Carteret, but only five of them scored.

Judah Pascal collected 6 rebounds while football standout, Angelo Golino added 4 rebounds and 2 assists. James Hart also chipped in with two assists and a rebound. Meanwhile, seven different players scored for Monroe including junior Sashank Sindhia, who led the Falcons with a team high 11 points in a losing cause.

Peter Nesti chipped in with 8 points including two threes while Matt Hoyt added 7 points including a trey. Fritz Frage, A.K. Patel, and Mike Kides contributed with 6 points while junior point guard, Luke Patel rounded out the scoring with 2 points for the Purple Birds.

Monroe was able to make a game of things with its three point shooting. The Falcons outscored Carteret by a margin of 24-3 from long distance, but the Ramblers were able to overcome that with a 38-18 edge in points scored from within the arc and a 10-4 edge in points coming from the foul line.

As a team, Carteret collected 37 rebounds, 11 steals, 10 assists, and 5 blocked shots. With the victory, Carteret advanced to the GMCT Elite Eight on Sunday, where it is scheduled to play third seeded Sayreville at 12:00 PM at New Brunswick High School. The Ramblers improved to 18-6 overall on the season including a 15-3 mark in the GMC while Monroe fell to 5-18 on the year including a 4-16 mark in conference play.
