Carteret Takes Over in 4th to Defeat Spotswood, 77-62

Ramblers Surge Past Chargers in Final Period for Win

CARTERET, NJ–In a battle of two of the top teams in the GMC Blue, Carteret defeated Spotswood in the season opener for both teams, 77-62. Trailing 54-51 after three periods, the Ramblers put together a 26-8 fourth quarter surge to prevail in a game that was a battle of runs.

Carteret opened the game with a 12-4 spurt, and eventually led 24-13 after one period. Spotswood responded in the second with a 21-7 surge that was highlighted by J.T. and Matt Vento combining to score 14 points in the frame for a 34-31 lead at the half.

Both teams combined to score 40 points in the third as the Chargers were able to preserve their tenuous three point lead heading into the fourth. Carteret ended up outscoring Spotswood in two of the four periods. Isiah Daniels-Porter led the way for the victors with a monster double-double of 25 points and 16 rebounds.

Jemar Jordan (13 points), Kahir Raymond (12 points), and Nasseir Moore (11 points) also scored in double figures for the Ramblers, which open the season at 1-0 overall and in divisional play. Spotswood, which fell to 0-1 overall and in the Blue Division, had three players score in double figures.

Sophomore Matt Vento led the Chargers in defeat with 23 points while Abdul Nieskens chipped in with 15 and J.T. Vento added 13. Carteret’s next game is on Monday, December 19th at South Plainfield while Spotswood is also on the road at South River on Monday night.
