GMC Gridiron Game Capsules–Week Eight–Saturday Afternoon

Two GMC Games On Tap To Close Out Week Eight

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ–On Saturday afternoon, the Week Eight schedule will close out with two contests involving teams from the Greater Middlesex Conference.   One is a key GMC Blue clash between Middlesex and Spotswood while the other is a GMC vs. Shore clash between Metuchen and Keyport at the Dawg Pound.  The Shore Conference’s Class B Central Division had its best week of the season against the GMC Blue by going 3-3.  However, the GMC Blue still leads the season series 12-8.  Below are game capsules on the two games with predictions:

Spotswood (4-3) at Middlesex (6-1)–This is more of a must win game for the Chargers, which would drop to 4-4 with a loss.  Middlesex is assured a playoff spot.  A win here would solidify seeding position and home field advantage.  Spotswood has won its last two games by a combined margin of 66-7.  Meanwhile, Middlesex is coming off a 7-0 loss to Metuchen at home two weeks ago.  Both the Chargers and the Jays have played Highland Park, Point Pleasant Beach, and South River.  Both teams defeated Highland Park and South River handily, but Middlesex edged Point Beach at home (14-6) while Spotswood lost at Point Beach (9-6).  Each team has a stout defense with Middlesex outscoring opponents 161-64 this season while Spotswood has outgunned its foes by a margin of 156-79.  Spotswood has also given Dunellen its only loss of the season back on opening weekend.  Expect another close game here.  The Chargers are going to get a slight edge in this one since they need to win to help qualify for the playoffs.  Prediction:  Spotswood wins, 14-7.

Keyport (1-6) at Metuchen (4-2)–After winning a huge game on the road against Blue Division rival, Middlesex two weeks ago, the Bulldogs came back down to earth with a 43-13 loss at the hands of Christian Palmer, Tysaun White, and a solid Mater Dei team last week.  Meanwhile, Keyport is coming off a loss on the road at Spotswood last week.  The Bulldogs will be looking to get back on the right track, and put out some frustration over last week’s loss to Mater Dei.  Both teams have played South River with Metuchen winning (9-0) on opening weekend while Keyport lost (26-12) in week two.  Expect big games from the Bulldogs including:  Danny Briggs, Evan Collier, and Devin Miller.  Bulldogs should roll here.  Prediction:  Metuchen wins, 35-7.

GMC Gridirion will not be attending either of the Saturday games.  We will be covering our Freshmen Game of the Week between J.F. Kennedy and Carteret on Friday afternoon followed by a Blue Division varsity tilt between South River and Dunellen from Columbia Park on Friday night.
