GMC Gridiron Preview–Week Nine–#3 Woodbridge @ Edison

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ–On Friday night, GMC Gridiron plans to head down to Edison High School to see another matchup in the GMC Red between the third ranked Barrons of Woodbridge, winners over Monroe last week, and the Edison Eagles, which are coming off a bye a week ago. This is the second time we are seeing both teams this year. Here are the particulars for this game:

Weather Forecast–Edison at 7:00 PM EDT on Friday night

A cold front passed through yesterday, and brought about a half inch of rain and much colder temperatures. The mercury was just above freezing for a low on Friday morning, and they were the coldest they’ve been since April. The temperature warmed up nicely into the low 50s around Central Jersey, and should be chilly by game time tonight. However, clouds from an approaching nor’easter will keep temperatures from approaching the lows we had this morning. Temps will be in the mid 40s under cloudy skies so you are going to want to bundle up. The weather will be going further downhill on Saturday with snow possible by Saturday night. Game Outlook

The Barrons made short work of the Monroe Falcons last Friday night at Priscoe Field. In the 42-10 victory, Woodbridge scored on each of its first six possessions including five touchdown passes by QB Kyle Anderson. With a 35 point lead at the half, the Barrons didn’t even play its starters in the second half, which may have a great benefit down the road when we get into the rough and tumble Central Jersey Group III State Tournament.

Speaking of rest, Edison had a bye week, and will be coming back to play at home. The Eagles have won both of their games at home this year with a 40-32 victory over East Brunswick in week two, and a 12-0 win over Monroe several weeks ago. Ken McGotty leads a potent offensive attack along with Amir Brown. Julius Collier also has the capability of making the big play like the fake punt he put together in the fourth quarter of the victory over Monroe.

Woodbridge has plenty of big playmakers on its roster with Anthony Nyers, Cody Zalasar, Juan Bonilla, Mika Graham, and Isaiah Johnson. Zalasar caught three touchdown passes last week while Nyers and Graham added TD scores and Johnson had the lone TD run for the Barrons. Edison will need to keep Woodbridge from out of the end zone, and the Eagles will have to do it by keeping the football for long stretches. Going three and out like Monroe did last week is not an option here.
