GMC Hoops Announces Radio Game of the Week

First Broadcast Will Be Opening Night Game Between EB and Joes

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ–Opening night of the 2000-01 season was an historic night for GMC Hoops. On that night, the site covered its first ever game between Piscataway and East Brunswick at East Brunswick High School.

Nearly 17 years later, and some 1,700 games later, the web site is now making another first. On Friday night, GMC Hoops will have its first ever radio broadcast of a GMC boys basketball game. James Corrigan, who does play by play for Fordham’s women’s basketball games, will be doing the play-by-play of this historic broadcast of the pening night contest between East Brunswick and St. Joseph’s at Maglio Gymnasium.

This will be the first in a series of broadcasts called the GMC Hoops Game of the Week. With WCTC 1450 AM no longer doing broadcasts of boys and girls basketball games in not only the GMC, but also the Skyland Conference, there has been a void in the area of live radio broadcasts of these games, and GMC Hoops hopes to fill some of that.

Both the Bears and Falcons are projected to be in the GMC Hoops Pre-Season Top Ten, which will be coming out later this week. Both teams took hits to graduation, but will be still looking to contend for the 2017 Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament Championship come February. The atmosphere is always at a fever pitch when these two fierce GMC Red Division rivals meet.

East Brunswick has not defeated St. Joseph’s since the Bears won the two regular season match-ups during the 2012-13 campaign. The Falcons have since won seven straight dating back to the memorable 2013 Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament Championship that took double overtime before the dust settled, and Joes emerged on top. It remains the only GMCT Final that went to double overtime.

In addition, St. Joseph’s has also been dominate against EB at Maglio Gymnasium over the past three years. The Falcons have rolled past the Bears by double digits in each of those last three meetings including a 75-53 win over East Brunswick back on January 7th. In each of these St. Joe’s wins at home, the third quarter has been the deciding period with the Falcons putting together a huge surge in the frame.

More details will be forthcoming on how to access the radio broadcast between East Brunswick and St. Joseph’s on Friday night.
