GMC Hoops Game Capsules–Summer Primetime Shootout–August 14, 2016

Plymouth Whitemarsh and St. Mary’s of Elizabeth Register Wins on Final Day

HAMILTON, NJ–In addition to the two games involving South Brunswick at the Summer Primetime Shootout on Sunday, GMC Hoops took in action from two other contests: Plymouth-Whitemarsh versus Randolph and St. Mary’s of Elizabeth versus Hyde (CT). Both games went down to the wire with St. Mary’s of Elizabeth winning in overtime. Here are capsules on the two games:

Plymouth-Whitemarsh (PA) 52–Randolph 45

Randolph led 23-22 with 15 seconds left in the first half when Plymouth-Whitemarsh scored on a three to end the half and then scored 11 of the first 15 points of the 2nd half for a 36-27 lead. PW then added a 6-0 run for a 43-33 lead before Randolph rallied with a 9-2 run capped by a layup with 3:20 left for a 44-42 PW lead. Randolph didn’t get any closer as PW finished the game on an 8-3 run including an alleyoop dunk with about 1:15 to play and two FTs with 1.6 seconds left for the 52-45 win.


St. Mary’s of Elizabeth 49–Hyde (CT) 47 OT

St. Mary’s broke away from a 6-6 tie with a 9-1 run to go up 15-7. Hyde rallied back with a 15-6 tear capped by a three with 1:51 to go in the half for a 22-21 lead. St. Mary’s would answer with a score for a 23-22 lead at the break. St. Mary’s went on a 10-0 run early in the 2nd half for a 37-31 lead, but Hyde rallied with a 9-2 spurt capped by a three and a putback for a 40-39 lead with 4:57 to play. Hyde then hit a three with 2:05 to play for a 45-41 lead before St. Mary’s rallied with two scores to tie the game at 45-45 and force overtime. In the extra session, St. Mary’s went in front at 47-45 on a putback with 38.6 seconds left. Hyde tied things up with two FTs with 26.8 seconds left, but St. Mary’s pulled out the 49-47 win with a layup from the left side with 6.7 seconds left.
