GMC Hoops Game Notes–#5 T&T Coast vs. #1 Stern’s Trailer–JSBL Semifinals–August 4, 2016

WALL TOWNSHIP, NJ–In the first semifinal contest, Stern’s Trailer seemed like it had finally found a way to avoid the upset and defeat T & T Coast. Thanks to the play of Blake Hamilton late in regulation and early in overtime, Stern’s Trailer had taken a 120-115 lead. However, T & T Coast, led by Jason Westrol and Justin Leith rallied to score the final six points of the game including two free throws by Westrol with 5.5 seconds left for the 121-120 victory over the regular season champs. Jerome Hubbard had a big night for Stern’s Trailer with a game high 48 points on 17 of 29 shooting including 11 threes. Below are game notes from the action:

First Quarter

9:23–ST–jumps out to a 6-0 lead on two threes including one by Jerome Hubbard.

7:34–ST–Hubbard splashes another trey from deep on the right wing for an 11-6 lead. Ends 6-2 T&T Coast run including a score by Nick Davison.

6:50–ST–Hubbard another three for a 14-8 lead.

5:38–T&T Coast–timeout after being fouled trailing 15-13.

5:22–T&T–OD Anosite–fouled and makes both FTs for a 15-15 tie.

5:08–T&T–OD Anosite–scores down low for a 17-15 lead.

4:15–ST–fouled and makes both FTs to pull within 20-19.

3:29–ST–timeout–trailing 20-19.

3:04–T&T–Davison–three point play for a 5-0 run and a 25-19 lead.

1:46–T&T–Justin Leith makes technical FT after an illegal defense for a 26-20 lead.

30.0–ST–rallies back with a 9-3 spurt including a dunk off a steal and another scores by Cory Soanes and a three by Wil Sanborn for a 29-29 tie.

0.0–T&T–takes a 31-29 lead into second on a last second score by OD Anosite off a feed by Leith.


Second Quarter

8:43–ST–timeout–after a 7-3 run for a 38-32 lead. OD Anosite with two scores including a breakaway dunk for T&T

5:09–T&T–Anosite–scores on a follow to increase the lead to 48-41.

3:56–T&T–timeout after a layup for ST earlier by Sanborn to close the gap to 50-45.

3:38–ST–Damon Lynn goes to the hole and scores for a 50-47 T&T lead.

2:36–T&T–now on an 8-2 run after a three from the left corner for a 58-49 lead.

6:51–T&T–Jones sinks a three from the left wing to ends a 10-5 ST run for a 69-64 lead. Hubbard hit a three to highlight run for ST.

5:43–ST–5-0 run capped by three from Hubbard to tie game at 69-69.

3:04–T&T–Mike Brunson dribbles his way out of trouble for a layup and a 81-74 lead.

2:29–T&T–timeout after layup by Leith for an 83-74 lead.
