GMC Hoops Game Notes–Bishop Ahr vs. New Brunswick–Odie Page Summer League–July 21, 2016

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–On Thursday night, GMC Hoops traveled over to New Brunswick High School to take in action from the 2016 Odie Page Summer League. Three GMC teams were in action including Bishop Ahr and New Brunswick, who faced off in the first game of the GMC Hoops doubleheader there.

The game was a back and forth affair for the most part. Bishop Ahr, led by Sean Kudelka and Alex Santiago, trailed 16-15 midway trough the first half before going on an 11-3 run to take a 26-19 lead late in the first half. New Brunswick clawed back within two by halftime after scoring on a layup underneath and then converting a three point play.

Led by Kudelka, Ahr was able to fend off the Zebras for a little while in the second half as they outscored the home team by a 12-10 margin for a 38-34 lead midway through the final 20 minutes. However, New Brunswick outscored the Trojans by a 17-10 margin the rest of the way including a pivotal 9-0 run to take a 43-38 lead. Bishop Ahr had tied the game at 43-43 with a little over six minutes left, but New Brunswick eventually won, 51-48 by scoring 8 of the last 13 points. Below are game notes from the action:

First Half

12:00–NB–three pointer from the right side for a 14-11 lead.

10:30–BGA–back to back scores from Kudelka for a 15-14 lead.

10:00–NB–basket for a 16-15 lead.

1:00–BGA–on an 11-3 run for a 26-19 lead. Run consisted of a layup and a three pointer by Alex Santiago and several scores from Kudelka.

0:20–NB–layup underneath for a 26-21 BGA lead.

0:11–NB–draws charge.

0:02–NB–converts a traditional three point play for a 26-24 BGA lead.

0:00–BGA leads NB 26-24 at the half.


Second Half

15:12–BGA–leads 32-28 after outscoring NB by a 6-4 margin to start the half. Kudelka highlighting the run with a jumper and a pair of free throws.

11:15–NB–timeout–follows a putback by Sean Kudelka for a 38-34 lead. Kudelka has the last six points for Ahr including a spin move in transition for a layup. New Brunswick had scored six points during the run including a three and a several free throws.

10:00–NB–three pointer from the right wing for a 39-38 lead.

8:52–NB–basket for a 41-38 lead.

7:52–NB–fouled and made both FTs for a 43-38 lead.

6:59–BGA–Santiago–breakaway layup for a 43-30 NB lead. Ends 9-0 NB run.

6:15–BGA–Kudelka converts a three point play to tie the game up at 43-43.

5:03–Game still tied at 43-43.

2:53–NB–putback for a 45-43 lead.

2:06–BGA–timeout–NB takes a 47-43 lead following a reverse layup.

1:30–BGA–Kudelka scores to close the gap to 49-45.

1:00–NB–hits a floater in the paint for a 51-45 lead.

0:35–BGA–Santiago sinks a three from beyond the top of the key for a 51-48 NB lead.

0:28–NB–timeout–BGA–Santiago deflects ball out of bounds. NB Leads 51-48.

0:00–NB wins 51-48. NB was fouled on the floor twice with under 10 seconds to play and missed the front end of the bonus with a second left, but the long heave by BGA fell short as NB won by three.
