GMC Hoops Game Notes–East Brunswick Tech @ Koinonia Academy–Non-Conference Clash–February 13, 2017

PLAINFIELD, NJ–After a busy weekend of GMCT Play-In Round action, GMC Hoops returned to the beat on Monday evening with a short trip up to Koinonia Academy to take in a non-conference clash between the Seraphs and East Brunswick Tech.

Koinonia jumped out to a 3-0 lead on a three by Mike Hardy, and then got another three from Ben Peregrin for a 9-4 lead. East Brunswick Tech drew within one at 9-8 after scoring the next four points when Ray Molnar sank a turnaround jumper from beyond the arc just before the buzzer for a 12-8 lead after one period.

The Seraphs opened the second quarter by scoring 14 of the first 24 points for a 26-18 lead before East Brunswick Tech rallied with a 7-0 run that included a three pointer by R.J. Jobin and two putbacks from Dan Rachelkyuk to pull the Tigers within one at 26-25.

Jim Clemente made one of two from the line for a 27-25 lead at the intermission. Koinonia then got a three from Hardy and a trey by Peregrin along with 3 of 4 from the foul line that included two technical free throws by Clemente for a 13-3 tear and a 40-28 lead midway through the third.

East Brunswick Tech then scored 9 of the next 13 points that included a three pointer and a layup by Jobin and a layup off a steal by Enudy Jiminez to close the gap to 44-37 with 5:31 remaining. The Tigers would get no closer though as Koinonia finished the game with a 13-9 run for a 57-46 win.

Peregrin led the Seraphs with a team high 15 points while Molnar chipped in with 12. Jobin had the game high with 16 points for the Tigers while Rachelkyuk chipped in with 14 points, all scored in the first half.

First Quarter

6:30–Koinonia takes a 3-0 lead on a three pointer from the left side of the key by Mike Hardy.

5:00–East Brunswick Tech goes in front 4-3 on two scores by Dan Rachelkyuk.

3:30–Koinonia on a 6-0 run after a three from the right corner by Ben Peregrin for a 9-4 lead.

1:00–East Brunswick pulls within one at 9-8 on two FTs by both Rachelkyuk and Dylan Stratton.

0:00–End of first qtr at Koinonia Academy and the Seraphs lead EB Tech 12-8 after a buzzer beating three pointer from the right wing by Ray Molnar. East Brunswick Tech had 2 FGs and a perfect 4 of 4 FTs. Rachelkyuk had 6 points on 2 FGs and 2 of 2 FTs. Dylan Stratton chipped in with 2 points on 2 of 2 FTs. Koinonia Academy had 3 treys, a FG, and 1 of 2 FTs in period. Peregrin led the Seraphs with 6 points while Hardy and Molnar each chipped in with 3.


Second Quarter

4:28 left in 2nd and Koinonia calls time leading EB Tech 17-12. Seraphs open the period with a 5-4 run including a three by Drew Miller.

2:21 left in 1st half and EB Tech calls timeout after this Dan Rachelkyuk putback closes gap to 22-16. Rachelkyuk bucket ends a 5-2 Koinonia run.

3:19 left in 4th and EB Tech calls time after RJ Jobin picked up a loose ball, and sank a jumper from the right baseline closes the gap to 50-41. Jobin’a bucket ends on a 6-2 Koinonia run.

48.2 seconds left in 4th and Koinonia calls time leading 56-46 after a Mike Hardy FT.
