GMC Hoops Game Notes–Robbinsville vs. Perth Amboy–December 30, 2015–Monroe Township Holiday Tournament

MONROE, NJ–On Wednesday night, GMC Hoops traveled over to Monroe High School to take in the second half of the Championship Game of the 2015 Monroe Township High School Holiday Tournament between Perth Amboy and Robbinsville.

Led by Jose Genao, who scored 11 points, and big man, Jesus Garcia, who scored 10 points in the opening half, Perth Amboy jumped out to a 36-23 lead at the intermission. The Panthers then opened the third period on a 10-2 tear that included a nifty spin move for a layin and then a three point play by Genao for a 46-25 lead. Robbinsville closed the gap to 48-33 at the end of the third with an 8-2 run, but couldn’t get much closer as Amboy pulled away with a 62-43 victory.

Genao finished with a team high 20 points while Victor Soto, who connected on a three pointer early in the fourth quarter, chipped in with 13, and Jesus Garcia added 12. Lucas Olshevski led Robbinsville in defeat with a game high 22 while Tino Gonzalez chipped in with 10. Below are game notes from the action.

First Quarter

Amboy opens the game with a 21-11 showing in the frame.

Jose Genao scored 9 of his points in the period to lead 4 different Amboy players in the scorebook. Johnny Jones chipped in with 5 while Jesus Garcia added 4 and Victor Soto contributed with 3. Amboy had 7 field goals, 2 threes, and made its only free throw attempt.

Lucas Olshevski led the Ravens with 5 points while Tino Gonzalez added two. Hutchinson chipped in with 4. Robbinsville had 5 field goals and made its only field goal attempt.


Second Quarter

Perth Amboy outscored Robbinsville by a 15-12 margin in the second. Jesus Garcia led four different players in the scorebook for Amboy with 6 points while Victor Soto chipped in with 5.

Amboy had 6 field goals, a three pointer and missed its only free throw attempt in the second.

Amboy collected its 36 points on 13 field goals, 3 treys, and one of two from the foul line. They outscored Robbinsville by a 9-0 margin from beyond the arc.


Third Quarter

6:00–Amboy now leads 43-25 after a nifty spin move by Jose Genao.

4:20 left in the third and Amboy now leads Robbinsville 46-25 after this three point play by Jose Genao.

2:05 left in the third and Amboy calls time after this Robbinsville layup closes the gap to 48-29.

Fourth Quarter

4:00–Robbinsville trailing 51-40. Following earlier scores by Jose Genao and Jesus Garcia for Amboy.

1:47 left in the game and thanks in part to a trey from the left wing by Victor Soto, Amboy leads 55-40.

0:00–Game just ended at Monroe with Perth Amboy winning the MTHS holiday title over Robbinsville, 62-43.
