SOUTH AMBOY, NJ–Our fifth game of the day on this Super Saturday 2012 was a non-conference matchup between Cardinal McCarrick and Roselle from CMHS. The Eagles jumped out to a 28-9 lead early in the second period, and had a 15-0 tear in the third to take a 56-28 lead. However, Roselle stormed back with a 30-10 surge over the final 10 or 11 minutes of the game to pull within 66-58 with under a half minute remaining. Jumanne McDaniel would wrap up the 68-58 win with two free throws in the waning seconds. Jonathan Rodriguez scored 8 points in the third quarter tear. Below are notes from the contest.
First Half
Arrive with 6:59 to go in the second period, and McCarrick was already on top by the score of 23-9. Â The Eagles then added a three pointer, and another score for a 28-9 lead. Â Roselle started to show some signs of life though as they ended the half with a 10-6 run including a couple threes. Â The Eagles got a jumper from Jumanne McDaniel off an assist by Jonathan Rodriguez, a steal for a two handed jam by Marques Townes, and two free throws from Alonzo Hamilton to take a 34-19 lead into the locker room at the intermission.
Third Quarter
7:04–Roselle calls timeout after Cardinal McCarrick gets scores from McDaniel and Mohammed Alli following a Roselle scored to open the half at the 7:45 mark for a 38-21 lead.
Roselle pulled within 41-28 after getting a three and two field goals a little more than midway through the third before McCarrick went on a 15-0 run including baskets by McDaniel and Alli, and a layup and two threes by Rodriguez to take a 56-28 lead. Â The Rams ended the scoring in the third with a basket in the waning seconds for a 56-30 CM lead headingn into the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
6:01–Roselle opens the final frame with a 6-1 run including a bucket at the 6:14 mark for a 57-36 McCarrick lead.
5:00–McCarrick calls for time…still leads 57-36.
3:08–After McDaniel hit a jumper from the right side, Roselle, which had an earlier field goal, got a three from over on the right wing for a 59-41 CM lead.
2:34–Roselle fores another turnover after getting a layup for a 59-43 CM lead.
2:21–Alli is fouled on the floor after Roselle gets another layup to pull within 14. Â Alli makes both FTs for a 61-45 lead.
1:48–Roselle calls timeout after scoring on a putback to pull within 63-48.
20.2–McCarrick throws the ball away after Roselle makes a layup. Â The Rams also had a three pointer to close the gap to 66-58.
0.0–McDaniel makes a couple free throws in the waning moments to wrap up the 68-58 win.
