GMC Hoops Game Notes–South Plainfield vs. Sayreville–Rahway Summer League–July 30, 2015

RAHWAY, NJ–In the nightcap of the tripleheader on the final day of the regular season at the 2015 Rahway Summer League, South Plainfield took on Sayreville in a GMC White clash.  After both teams sparred with 5 lead changes and a tie over the first 8 minutes or so of the contest, Sayreville went on a decisive 17-0 run to take a commanding 25-9 lead.  South Plainfield, led by Lamont Williams and Isaiah Norman, put together a furious rally in the second half, but the Bombers put away the Tigers with a three pointer at the 45 second mark to secure the 56-48 victory.  Below are game notes from the action:

First Half

15:39–SAY leads 8-7 after one of two  FTs by Jahsim Floyd.  Derek Astarita has a layup for the Bombers while Isaiah Norman has 5 points and Lamont Williams opened the game with a jumper from inside the arc for South Plainfield.

13:29–SAY–timeout with an 8-7 lead.

11:15–SAY leads 12-9 after a 4-0 run.  So far there has been 5 lead changes and a tie.

5:16–SP–timeout after two layins by SAY off nice assists by Astarita for a 20-9 lead.  Bombers on a 12-0 run.

4:50–SP–Williams drive for layup and a foul, but missed bonus FT.  SAY leads 25-11 after another layin and a three from the right wing.  Williams score ended a 17-0 SAY tear.

0:00–SP–unable to get a shot off, but closes gap to 28-15 at the half as Williams scores 3 points on a basket and 1 of 2 FTs.

Second Half

13:34–SAY–leads 34-24 despite a pair of free throws by Williams.  SP on a 9-6 run to start half.

12:57–SP–timeout after putback by Williams for a 36-26 SAY lead.

11:46–SP–pulls within single digits at 38-29 on a three from the right wing by Williams.

9:00–SAY now up 43-29 after a 5-0 run capped by a Floyd layup.

6:24–SAY–Floyd hits two FTs to end a 6-2 SP run.  All SP points scored by Williams on a layup, jumper, and floater.

3:34–SP–Williams–three point play ends 6-0 SAY run for a 51-38 SAY lead.

2:39–SAY timeout with a 53-42 lead after a 4-2 SP run on a layup and assist on another score by Williams.

1:02–SP–Norman scores on a putback for a 53-44 SAY lead.

45.0–SAY–three from the left wing for a 56-44 lead.

36.0–SP–Williams scores on easy layup for a 56-46 SAY lead.

19.0–SP–Williams layup for a 56-48 SAY lead.

0.0–SAY–runs out the clock for the 56-48 victory.
