Here are highlights from the action in the 2017 Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament Play-In Round game between #28 South Amboy and #21 South River.
The Rams of South River connected on 14 three pointers including 12 in the first half, and outscored South Amboy by a margin of 42-21 from long distance en route to a 92-54 victory in the GMCT Play-In Round.
South River, led by sophomore Derrick Whitaker, who scored a game high 29 points, scored 30 points in the first quarter alone, and had a 53-38 lead at halftime. Fellow sophomore Joey Nigro chipped in with 17 points while South Amboy was led by sophomore Kyle Gasiewski, who scored 19. Teammate Alan Kazar chipped in with 12 for the Guvs.
South River, which improved to 9-12 on the season, advanced to play 12th seeded East Brunswick in the GMCT Preliminary Round on Tuesday, February 14th at EB. Whitaker now has 979 points for his career.
