Here are highlights from the action in the 2017 GMCT Quarterfinal round game between 6th seeded Carteret and 3rd seeded Sayreville at New Brunswick High School.
Sayreville broke away from a 15-15 first quarter tie with a 15-9 second quarter showing capped by two free throws and a layup in the closing seconds by Jayson DeMild to take a 30-24 halftime lead.
From there, the Bombers gradually pulled away by outscoring Carteret by a margin of 24-15 in the second half to post a 54-39 victory and make its 2nd trip to the GMCT Final Four in the last four years.
Jashim Floyd led the Bombers with a double-double of 14 points and 15 rebounds along with several blocks while DeMild added 15 pionts and 8 boards. Xavier Townes chipped in with 12 points including several scores down the stretch to seal the win along with 7 rebounds. Isaiah Daniels-Porter led Cartere in defeat with 13 points.
Sayreville will face 2nd seeded South Brunswick, a 67-52 winner over 10th seeded J.F. Kennedy in another quarterfinal, in the semis on February 24th in South Brunswick. The Bombers improved to 19-6 on the season while Carteret dropped to 18-7.
