Here are highlights from the action in the 2017 Greater Middlesex Conference Semifinal contest between third seeded Sayreville and second seeded South Brunswick at South Brunswick High School.
Sayreville had a 60-50 lead with around two minutes remaining in regulation when South Brunswick rallied with a 10-0 run that included a three by Mike Ugarte to force overtime. Ugarte then gave the Vikings the lead early in the overtime, but Sayreville would emerge victorious.
Bolstered by the steal for a dunk by Ope Olaloko (4 points) to tie the game at 65-65, and going ahead for good on a layup by Ryan O’Leary after a block by Jahsim Floyd at the other end, Sayreville rallied with a 9-3 spurt to close the game for a 69-65 victory to appear in the GMCT Championship Game for the first time since 2000.
Jahsim Floyd led the Bombers with 26 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 blocks while Xavier Townes chipped in with 12 points, and Ryan O’Leary added 11 points in the win. Mike Ugarte led South Brunswick in defeat with a game high 33 points including six threes.
