GMC Hoops Highlights–February 23, 2012–St. Joseph’s-White vs. Monroe–PA Frosh Tourney Consolation

Here are some video highlights from the final three periods of action in the consolation game of the 2012 Perth Amboy/GMC Freshmen Tournament at Perth Amboy High School. Monroe jumped out to a 9-6 first quarter lead in this battle of Falcons. The Little Purple Birds increased the lead to 13-7 thanks to two foul shots by Matt Cocorikis, and blocked shots by Cameron Coleman.

St. Joe’s-White rallied with four straight points including a putback by Nick Guddemi and a steal for a layup by Mike Horn to close the gap to 13-11. Adam Darwish closed the first half scoring with a basket for Monroe. In the second half, the Monroe Little Falcons led by a score of 26-19 after a three by Tyler Salzer to end the third, and went up by nine at 32-23 in the fourth before St. Joseph’s rallied with five straight points including a three by P.J. Strahm to pull within four.

St. Joe’s-White was unable to get closer though as Brandon Talalai converted a three point play, and Cocorikis added a layup for a 39-29 lead before Horn made two late free throws to close out the scoring in Monroe’s 39-31 victory. Cocorikis and Salzer ended up leading the way with 11 points for MTHS while Coleman chipped in with 6 points and 4 blocks. St. Joe’s-White was led by Horn with 9 points while Strahm and Carl Mac Ewen chipped in with 6 points.
