GMC Hoops Highlights–February 23, 2017–#8 St. Joseph’s vs. #2 Piscataway–Amboy Tourney Final

Here are highlights from the action in second seeded Piscataway’s win over 8th seeded St. Joseph’s in the 2017 Perth Amboy/GMC Freshmen Tournament Championship at Perth Amboy High School.

Piscataway jumped out to a 26-17 lead at halftime behind 10 first half points from Kristan Hernandez and six from Jonathan Livingston, but St. Joseph’s rallied with a 15-4 tear over the first 9:30 of the second half capped by a three pointer by Demarcus Shepard for a 32-30 lead with 6:30 remaining.

The game went back and forth after that with both teams scratching and clawing for control of the contest. St. Joseph’s actually took a 44-42 lead with 1:42 left on two free throws by Shepard. Piscataway would pull out the win though by scoring 5 of the last 7 points including a score by Livingston with 10.5 seconds remaining for the 47-46 victory.

Livingston, who was selected as Tourney MVP, finished with 16 points while Hernandez chipped in with 14. Adam Boucher led St. Joseph’s in a losing cause with 16 points while Andrew Olden chipped in with 15 points. Piscataway ended the year at 19-1 while St. Joe’s finished at 20-8.
