GMC Hoops Highlights–February 24, 2015–#5 Perth Amboy vs. #1 St. Joseph’s–GMCT Semis

Here are highlights from the action in top ranked St. Joseph’s win over fifth seeded Perth Amboy in the 2015 Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament Semifinals at South Brunswick High School.

After Perth Amboy’s Carlos Done got a three pointer to bounce in to tie the score at 27-27, St. Joseph’s embarked on a 13-5 run over the final 5:02 of the third to take a 40-32 lead into the fourth. From there, the Falcons pulled away with a 19-13 showing in the final frame for a 59-45 victory.

The win marked the sixth straight year that St. Joseph’s advanced to the GMCT Championship Game. Senior forward, Marcus Ashamole led the way with a game high 22 points while junior teammate Bree Tyree chipped in with 16. Done led Amboy with 16 points while Nate Melendez added 14 in a losing cause.

With the victory, St. Joseph’s improved to 20-3 overall on the season and played second ranked Colonia in the GMCT Championship, and lost (54-38). Perth Amboy dropped to 12-9 overall with the defeat, and would eventually win its first round game over J.P. Stevens in the 2015 North Jersey Section 2 Group 4 State Tournament.
