Here are highlights from the last 17 minutes of action in the 2015 Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament Semifinals between 6th seeded East Brunswick and 2nd seeded Colonia at South Brunswick High School.
Colonia scored the last six points of the 2nd period to break away from a 17-17 tie to take a 23-17 halftime lead. The Patriots then opened the third quarter by scoring the first 8 points to take a 31-17 lead. East Brunswick would battle back in this contest though.
Colonia went on to lead by 17 at one point in the second half before EB rallied with an 11-0 run to close the gap to 42-36 with 2:01 remaining. Highlighting the run as Mike Vick and Matt Ross connected on three pointers, Addis Ralph added a basket, and Ross capped the rally with a traditional three point play.
East Brunswick had a chance to pull closer, but was unable to score, and Colonia scored the last four points of the game for a 46-36 victory. Chase Barneys led Colonia with 13 points while Jodrell Thompson added 11 points while J.J. Corbett chipped in with 10.
Matt Ross led all scorers with a game high 17 points for East Brunswick. Colonia improved to 19-4 on the season, and went on to defeat top seeded St. Joseph’s in the 2015 GMCT Championship Game. East Brunswick fell to 15-7 with the loss. It was the first time in three years that the Bears were not in the GMCT Final.
