GMC Hoops Highlights–February 26, 2014–#9 St. Joseph’s vs. #4 North Brunswick–EB JV Semis

Here highlights from the action in the nightcap of the semifinal doubleheader at the 2014 East Brunswick/GMC JV Tournament between 9th seeded St. Joseph’s and 4th seeded North Brunswick. In a game that featured several dramatic shifts in momentum, North Brunswick overcame an eight point deficit in about a minute midway through the fourth quarter to take a 44-43 lead, but sophomore Bryce Layne came up with a huge three point play to put the Junior Falcons back up by two. After North Brunswick tied it on a layup with 1:18 to go in regulation, Connor Klementowicz scored on a outback with under a minute left, and then Bryce Layne made one of two free throws and stole an inbounds pass with just seconds remaining to pull out the hard fought 49-46 win for the Junior Falcons.

North Brunswick had three players score in double figures led by big man Tony Tan with 13 points. Basit Khan chipped in with 12 while Andrew Tsygan added 11 in defeat for the Junior Raiders. Although St. Joseph’s didn’t have a player that scored in double figures, the Junior Falcons had a more balanced attack with 6 players scoring at least six points led by freshman Xavier Townes, who had a team high 9 points including two threes in the third quarter. Layne ended up with 7 points as well as fellow sophomore Connor Klementowicz while Connor Mahoney chipped in with 8 points and both Bryan Carley and freshman Mike Granda contributed with 6. The Junior Falcons outscored the Junior Raiders by a margin of 18-6 from beyond the arc in the win.
