GMC Hoops Highlights–February 8, 2014–St. Benedict’s vs. Benedictine Prep–Prime Time Shootout

Here are highlights from the contest between St. Benedict’s of Newark and Benedictine Prep of Virginia on the first day of action in the 2014 Prime Time Shootout at Roselle Catholic High school.

Riding a wave of 12 three pointers, the Cadets of Benedictine Prep jumped out to a 51-33 halftime lead. After giving up a three to start the second half, the Grey Bees of St. Benedict’s scored 20 of the next 22 points to pull within three at 56-53 late in the third. However, St. Bennie’s was unable to get any closer.

Benedictine Prep, which outscored St. Benedict’s by a margin of 45-15 from beyond the arc, pulled away with a 25-22 showing the rest of the way for the 81-75 victory. Robert Johnson led the way with 30 points including 6 threes while Josh Bailey chipped in with 21 including 5 treys. Faiz Shaheen added 14 points including four threes.

Arnaldo Toro led St. Benedict’s in a losing cause with 20 points while Kamar McKnight chipped in with 19 and Trevon Duval added 17. VCU bound Jonathan Williams orchestrated the offense while scoring 14 points for the Grey Bees. Benedictine went on to defeat the Patrick School the next day (62-60), and finished the season at 24-5. St. Benedict’s went on to finish its season at 20-7.
