Here are highlights from the action in the 2013 North Jersey Section 2 Group 1 Semifinals between Dunellen of the Greater Middlesex Conference and Jonathan Dayton of the Union County Conference.
GMC Hoops traveled up Route 22 East over the Jonathan Dayton Regional High School in Springfield to take in the semifinal round game between the top seeded Bulldogs and fourth seeded Dunellen in the North Jersey Section 2 Group I State Tournament.
The Destroyers started out strong with a 10-2 spurt over the first 5:54 of the contest, but then Dayton took control with a 33-13 surge over a span of 18:06 to take a 35-23 lead. The Bulldogs led by as many as 17 midway through the fourth when Dunellen rallied with an 8-0 run in less than a minute on a layup by Dylan Hoski and two threes by David Johnson to pull within nine at 44-35 with 3:52 left.
The Bulldogs didn’t let the Destroyers get any closer though en route to a 59-41 victory and a berth in the Championship Game for the third time in the last four years.
