GMC Hoops Highlights–March 7, 2015–#6 Wildwood Catholic @ #3 McCarrick–NPB South Tourney

Here are highlights from the action in the 2015 NJSIAA Non-Public B South Quarterfinals between 6th seeded Wildwood Catholic and 3rd seeded Cardinal McCarrick in South Amboy.

This would be the last game ever played at Cardinal McCarrick High School since the school would close several months later. The Crusaders of Wildwood Catholic jumped out to an 18-11 lead, and increased its advantage to 31-21 at the half.

The Eagles of Cardy Mac rallied in the third with an 18-11 showing to close the gap to 42-39 heading into the fourth, but couldn’t get any closer as Wildwood Catholic finished the game with a 19-16 showing in the final frame for the 61-55 victory.

D.J. Smith led the way in victory for the Crusaders with a game high 21 points including five three pointers. Trey Smith and Caleb Fields chipped in with 11 points. Gilberto Cue led McCarrick in a losing cause with 17 points including five threes while Bryan Harris chipped in with 15 points including four treys.

Wildwood Catholic improved to 21-7 with the victory, and advanced to play second seeded Trenton Catholic in the semifinals that year. Cardinal McCarrick concluded its final season at 21-5 after starting the season at 19-0.
