GMC Hoops Notebook—2014 GCU Lions HS Shootout

LAKEWOOD, NJ–Boys summer hoops coverage continued last Friday when GMC Hoops traveled down to Georgian Court University to take in some of the action from the 2014 GCU Lions high school basketball shootout. It was a brief stay since most of the action was done by the mid-afternoon.

There was originally eight teams slated to play in this tournament style event. However, Monroe, the only GMC school that was originally scheduled to play in the event, ultimately did not participate so the field ended up being only seven teams. The seven teams were Bound Brook, Henry Hudson, Lakewood, Notre Dame, St. Mary’s Elizabeth, Tom’s River North, and Union Catholic.

Bound Brook, Toms River North, Lakewood, and St. Mary’s Elizabeth all advanced semifinal round. In the first semifinal, Toms River North faced Bound Brook with the Mariners defeating the Crusaders. The second semifinal matched up St. Mary’s of Elizabeth, the runner-up in the 2014 Kean Spring League, against Lakewood with the Hilltoppers downing the Piners. In the third place game, Lakewood defeated Bound Brook, and St. Mary’s won the Championship over Toms River North.
