Here is a slideshow of photos from the second half action in Mercy College’s win over Georgian Court University in a non-conference NCAA Division 2 clash in Lakewood, New Jersey.
Trailing 29-28 at the half, the Mavericks of Mercy College opened the final 20 minutes of play on a 12-6 run to take a 40-35 lead. The Lions of GCU scored the next five points on a three pointer from the left wing, and a putback by Luka Zgonjanin (14 points) to tie the game at 40-40 with exactly 10 minutes to play.
However, Georgian Court wasn’t able to solve the zone defense of Mercy College, and the Mavericks took advantage with a decisive 10-0 spurt over a 2:23 span for a 50-40 lead. Mercy College went on to lead by as many as 15 points on a couple of occasions before winning the contest 68-57.
Former DePaul Catholic standout, Juwuan Carter led GCU in defeat with 15 points while former Woodbridge standout, Keith Hughes added a double-double of 13 points and 10 boards while former Perth Amboy and Bound Brook standout, Hamilton Capellan came off the bench to score three points.
Marko Kozul led all scorers with 22 points for Mercy College while teammate Ryan Hickey added 15 and Jefferson Francois chipped in with 10. The Mavericks improved to 2-8 on the season while the Lions dropped to 1-9.
