GMC Hoops To Open High School Schedule With P-Way @ Perth Amboy Tripleheader

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ–After weeks of deliberation, GMC Hoops has decided to open the season with a Freshmen, JV, and Varsity tripleheader between Piscataway and Perth Amboy on opening night, December 18, 2009 at PAHS. The Chiefs are the defending champion while Perth Amboy has a good group of juniors as well as a solid incoming freshmen class.

Since the 2006-07 season, GMC Hoops has kicked off the season with a Freshmen, JV, and Varsity tripleheader. The only exception was last year when a winter storm forced many games to be postponed on Friday, December 19th. Hopefully, this year, the weather will cooperate. Last year, Piscataway won the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament over St. Joseph’s (63-56), and reached the Championship Game of the North Jersey Section 2 Group IV State Tournament before losing to Plainfield.

Meanwhile, Perth Amboy continued to be a team in transition. Despite adding transfers Anthony Patterson (Perth Amboy Tech) and Eliazar Landeo (Cardinal McCarrick) to a solid group of then sophomores, the Panthers ended up only going 6-19 on the season. However, Amboy had a successful summer, and is returning the likes of Kearny Canela, Yoelbin Sanchez, Victor Verdecia, Ariel Hilton, and Domingo Rosario. Piscataway lost a lot to graduation, but still has the likes of Wayne Newsome and Malcolm Griggs along with Edison transfer, Anthony Green.
