GMC Standouts Schimou and Caver Attending Coastal Academy

Former Piscataway and Colonia Standouts to Play Post Graduate Hoops at Belmar School

BELMAR, NJ–Earlier this month at the Summer Prime Time Shootout, GMC Hoops learned that two recent graduates from GMC schools decided to play a year of post-graduate ball at Coastal Academy in Belmar.

Rachid Schimou of Piscataway and Charlie Caver of Colonia decided to attend the school and both were playing for head coach Ian Turnbull at the Summer Prime Time. Both Schimou and Caver made contributions in Coastal Academy’s wins over Paul VI (93-38) and Academy New Church (67-49) that weekend.

Caver was a senior transfer to Colonia this past season, and was a key contributor to the Patriots best season since 2009 and their best finish ever in the GMC Red. Colonia reached the semifinals of the GMCT for the first time since losing to Cardinal McCarrick in the Final Four in 2008, and made it to the semis of the North Jersey Secton 2 Group III bracket for the first time since losing to Scotch Plains in the 2008 sectional final. Caver was also selected to play in the 2014 GMCBCA Senior All-Star Game at Woodbridge High School in March.

Meanwhile, Scihmou played varsity in each of his last two seasons at Piscataway. As a sophomore, Scihmou contributed to the Piscataway JV squad that reached the quarterfinals of the 2012 East Brunswick/GMC Tournament where it lost to North Brunswick. The Chiefs finished each of the past two seasons below .500 including a 7-15 finish this past season. P-Way did manage to win four straight games before losing to East Brunswick in the GMCT Round of 16 to finish the season.

Coastal Academy is a post-graduate school in Belmar that was previously known as CJEOTO. The team competes against some of the elite programs in the Garden State as well as the rest of the country.
