Jordan Leads Carteret Past Somerville, 53-38

Ramblers Forward Collects Double-Double to Lift Ramblers to State Tourney Win

CARTERET, NJ–On Tuesday, play began in the North Jersey Section 2 Group 3 State Tournament with the fourth seeded Carteret Ramblers hosting 13th seeded Somerville of the Skyland Conference at Carteret High School.

Led by senior forward, Jemar Jordan, who collected a double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds, Carteret outscored Somerville in every quarter to post a 53-38 victory. Jordan also collected 5 steals, 4 assists, and 3 blocks. Forward Judah Pascal added 11 points, 4 rebounds, an assist, and a steal.

Isaiah Daniels-Porter chipped in with 9 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and a block. Kahir Raymond also contributed with 8 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals, and a block. Carteret had 10 different players get into the game with six of them scoring. Robert Melillo led Somerville in a losing cause with 18 points.

Sam Preston added 8 points while Da’Shaun Smith and Chris Elwood each chipped in with 5 points. Five different players saw action and scored for the Pioneers. As a team, Carteret collected 27 rebounds, 14 assists, 11 steals, and 6 blocked shots. The Ramblers outscored the Pioneers by a margin of 9-6 from long distance.

Carteret also outscored Somerville by a margin of 40-30 from within the arc. The. Ramblers also enjoyed a 4-2 edge in free throws made. Carteret jumped out to an 11-9 first quarter lead, and then outscored Somerville by a margin of 29-18 during the middle two periods before finishing with a 13-11 showing in the fourth for the win.

With the victory, Carteret, which won the GMC Blue Division, and reached the 2017 GMCT Quarterfinals, improved to 19-8 overall on the season while Somerville completed its season at 7-17. The Ramblers advanced to play fifth seeded Barringer on Thursday, March 2nd at 6:00 PM.
