Lenny Reyes Takes The Helm At South Amboy

Former JFK Standout, and Metuchen Head Coach Becomes Guvs Fourth Coach In Four Years

MONROE, NJ–On Wednesday night, GMC Hoops learned that former JFK hoops standout, and Metuchen head coach, Lenny Reyes returns to the GMC by taking over the program at South Amboy. He replaces Mark Truhan, who recently took the vacant Marlboro coaching position. Reyes, a 1,000 point scorer at JFK, coached two seasons at MHS. Prior to that, he was an assistant head coach at Colonia under the legendary Ken Pace, and after leaving Metuchen, he took JV and assistant coach position at J.P. Stevens for several seasons.

His senior year at JFK, he teamed up with another coach in Jamie Panko to the 1990 GMCT Championship over Perth Amboy as well as the Central Jersey Group III sectional title. The Mustangs would reach the Group III State Title game before losing to Snyder of Jersey City. Reyes is the fourth different coach at South Amboy in the last four seasons. The Guvs qualified for the CJ Group I state tournament last year, and will be competing in a revamped GMC Gold Division with South River moving down and Timothy Christian as well as Wardlaw moving in from the Patriot Conference.
