Woodbridge Advances While Colonia Falls in Opening Round

LINDEN, NJ–On Monday afternoon, GMC Hoops managed to avoid the severe thunderstorms to get over to Linden High School to take in action from the opening round of the Linden Summer League Playoffs.

Two of the three teams from the Greater Middlesex Conference were in action as Colonia took on Linden in its opening round match-up while Woodbridge squared off against Rutgers Prep in its first round clash.

Trailing 5-2 early, the Linden Tigers finished the first quarter on a 12-2 tear for a 14-7 lead, and then outscored the Patriots by a 23-3 margin in the second for a 37-10 halftime lead, and never looked back in a 32 point victory. Christian Chapman was a bright spot in defeat for Colonia.

Woodbridge, which didn’t win a game during the regular season did manage to pull off one of the big surprises in the opening round. Led by the likes of Harry Rutkowski, Quran Robinson, and Hura Blaine, the Barrons were able to knock off Rutgers Prep.

Trailing 26-13 late in the first half, Woodbridge embarked on a 41-20 surge over a span of 19:55 to take a 54-46 lead with 1:21 remaining, and went on to win by eight. The Barrons advanced to the quarterfinals on Wednesday, where they will play Union Catholic, a winner over Point Pleasant Beach.
