North Brunswick’s Bhandare to Walk On at Stevens Tech

Raiders Standout Hopes to Join South Brunswick’s Engel on Ducks Squad

North Brunswick’s Pranay Bhandare, seen here firing up a three against Bishop Ahr on January 4th, has decided to attend Stevens Tech in Hoboken, and plans to walk on to the men’s basketball team there.

NORTH BRUNSWICK, NJ—On Tuesday night, GMC Hoops learned that North Brunswick High School’s Pranay Bhandare, has decided to attend Stevens Tech next fall and plans to walk-on to the men’s basketball team there. Bhandare, who played JV as a freshman and moved up to varsity as a sophomore at NBTHS, averaged 12.9 points per game this past season for the Raiders.

Two years ago, Bhandare was a contributor on the North Brunswick squad that finished second to Sayreville in the GMC White, and reached the 2014 GMCT Quarterfinals before bowing out to Colonia. A year ago as a junior, Bhandare was a key player on a Raiders squad that finished 11-11 and reached the Central Jersey Group 4 Quarterfinals before losing to Colts Neck. Over his three year varsity career, Bhandare accumulated 555 points for his career.

This past season, Bhandare played in 19 games according to NJ.com, and connected on 47 field goals, 41 threes, and 28 foul shots for a total of 245 points. All of those were career highs for a season. For his career, Bhandare played in 61 games and connected on 99 three pointers, 96 field goals, and 62 free throws to average 9.1 points per game. Bhandare plans to join former South Brunswick standout, Jack Engel, who is finishing up his freshman year at the school.

Stevens Tech, a member of the Empire 8 Conference, went 12-14 overall in 2015-16 including an 8-8 mark in league play. A year ago, the Ducks were 12-13 overall including an 8-8 record in conference. Another player from the Central Jersey area on the Stevens roster is former Hunterdon Central standout, Evan Klimchak. Somerville’s JoJo Mosca will be attending Stevens next year. In addition, East Brunswick’s Carl Taylor also competes in the Empire 8 as a member of the Utica Pioneers.
