Peterson-Fish Moving on to Play for Rutgers-Camden of NJAC

Piscataway Hoops Standout Commits to D3 School

PISCATAWAY, NJ—A year ago, Keshawn Peterson-Fish was a reserve on the 2018-19 Piscataway Chiefs team that reached the 2019 GMCT Boys Championship and the 2019 NJSIAA North Jersey Section 2 Group 4 Semifinals. This season, with the departure of 12 players from that 2018-19 Chiefs team graduating while the likes of football standout, Kristian Hernandez focusing on just the gridiron, Peterson-Fish and Jonathan Livingston had to step up.

Both players didn’t disappoint although the Chiefs struggled to finish 6-18 overall and lost to South Brunswick in the 2020 GMCT Boys Round of 16. Playing a more enhanced role his senior year, Peterson-Fish drew attention from colleges including Rutgers-Camden of the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Recently, GMC Hoops learned that Peterson-Fish committed to play for the Scarlet Raptors next fall. Peterson-Fish, a three year varsity basketball player at P-Way, scored 309 points in his career including 269 this past season.

Peterson-Fish compiled those 269 points on 83 field goals, 22 three pointers, and 38 free throws. He also added 131 rebounds, 42 assists, 43 steals, and 9 blocked shots in 21 games played for an average of 12.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 2.0 steals per contest. Peterson-Fish brought a nice combination of length and athleticism along with perimeter shooting. He scored in double figures in 15 games including three games of 20 points or more.

Some of his best performances this season were against South Brunswick. Although the Chiefs lost all three contests to the Vikings, Peterson-Fish still shined. In the three contests versus SBHS this past season, Peterson-Fish had 19 field goals, 3 treys, and 5 free throws for a total of 52 points along with 30 rebounds, 8 assists, and 7 steals, or an average of 17.1 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.3 steals per game. He had his career high of 27 points and two of his three double-doubles versus the Vikings this season.

Opening night, Peterson-Fish put on a show for GMC Hoops as he helped Piscataway battle back from a 13 point deficit with under five minutes to play to pull within a single possession of Perth Amboy, but the Panthers held on for a 66-60 victory. Peterson-Fish tallied 21 points on 4 field goals, 3 treys, and 4 foul shots while also compiling 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and an assist. Against Timothy Christian in the 2020 GMCT Preliminary Round, Peterson-Fish shared game high of 23 points with Livingston in a hard fought, 71-63 win.

As a junior, Peterson-Fish tallied 32 points on 8 field goals, 3 treys, and 7 free throws while also picking up 9 rebounds, 4 steals, and 2 assists in 14 games played. The year before, Peterson-Fish played in just three games as a sophomore and scored 7 points on a field goal, a three, and two free throws. For his career, Peterson had his 309 points on 92 field goals, 26 threes, and 47 free throws in 38 games for an average of 8.1 points per game.

Peterson-Fish also contributed to Piscataway’s Freshmen team winning the 2017 Perth Amboy/GMC Freshmen Tourney and P-Way’s JV team winning the 2018 East Brunswick/GMC JV Tournament. He will be joining a Rutgers-Camden program looking to go in a winning direction. This past season, the Scarlet Raptors finished 7-18 overall including a 4-14 mark in the NJAC. Despite the struggles, the Scarlet Raptors still improved over the year before when they were only 2-23 overall including a 2-16 mark in conference play.

Congratulations Keshawn, and best of luck as you move on to the next level.
