Guvs Rebound from Loss on Saturday with First Win of Season

SOUTH AMBOY, NJ–A little less than 48 hours after suffering a tough loss to Calvary Christian in the nightcap of the 2016-17 Friends of South Amboy Showcase, the Guvs of South Amboy took the floor against Gold Division rival, East Brunswick Tech, and this time got better results.

With three players scoring in double figures including Kyle Gasiewski with a game high 24 points, the Governors jumped out to an 18-6 lead, and wound up outscoring the Tigers in three of the four periods to notch their first win of the young season, 67-49. Justin Lewis chipped in with 16 points while Alan Kazar collected a double-double of 12 points and 16 erbounds for the winners.

South Amboy outrebounded EB Tech by a margin of 31-14 on the glass, and handed out 13 assists as eight different players scored in the contest. While East Brunswick Tech enjoyed an 18-12 edge in points scored from beyond the arc, South Amboy dominated in points scored from the free throw line with a 24-3 edge.

The Guvs also had a 16-14 edge in two point field goals made. Three players scored in double figures for East Brunswick Tech including Enudy Jimenez, A.J. Rambone, and Dylan Stratton, who each had 10 points. South Amboy added to its 12 point first quarter lead with a 21-12 showing in the second to lead 39-18 at the intermission.

With the victory, South Amboy improves to 1-2 overall, and 1-1 in the GMC Gold while East Brunswick Tech, which lost to Highland Park on opening night (47-22), falls to 0-2 in both division and overall on the season. Both teams will be in action on Wednesday with the Guvs facing off against Piscataway Tech on the road at 5:30 PM while EB Tech hosts Perth Amboy Tech at 5:30 PM.
