Raiders Sweep Season Series with Guvs

SOUTH AMBOY, NJ–In a battle for third place in the GMC Gold Division, Piscataway Tech jumped out to a 20-12 first quarter lead, and then added a 22-12 showing in the second for a commanding 42-24 advantage at the half, and cruised from there for a 70-55 victory over South Amboy.

The Raiders outscored the Guvs in three of the four quarters played and had seven different players get into the scorebook in the victory. Sophomore point guard, Sergio Rodriguez led the way with 19 points including a three pointer while junior forward, Branden Barnes added 15 points.

Josh Lugo chipped in with 9 points while Taquan Smith and Chris Zambonino each contributed with 8 points. Daniel Peacock had 7 points while Dyshaun Hoggard came off the bench to round out the scoring with 4 points. Kyle Gasiewski led the way in defeat for the Guvs with 18 points including four three pointers.

Steven Pena continued his solid play of late with 15 points while Bobby Nebus chipped in with 7 points. Isaiah Munoz and Alan Kazar contributed with 6 points while Justin Lewis (2 points) and Jordan Correa (1 point) rounded out the South Amboy scoring. The Guvs also had 7 different players score in the game.

The South Amboy Governors held a 21-9 edge in points scored from long distance, and a 18-9 advantage in points scored from the foul line. However, P-Way Tech had a 52-14 advantage in points scored from within the arc, and that proved to be the difference. With the victory, Piscataway Tech improved to 7-10 overall including a 7-4 mark in the GMC Gold.

Meanwhile, South Amboy dropped to 6-9 overall including a 5-6 mark in divisional play. Piscataway Tech, which defeated South Amboy back on December 21st in Piscataway, swept the season series from the Guvs, and are in sole possession of third place behind Timothy Christian and Amboy Tech.

Both teams return to action later in the week with Piscataway Tech playing at Highland Park on Wednesday night at 7:00 PM while South Amboy travels to Dunellen on Friday night for a 6:00 PM contest.
