NEPTUNE, NJ–Recently, GMC Hoops learned that a team from the Greater Middlesex Conference will be competing in this year’s Hoop Group Tip-Off Classic. St. Joseph’s of Metuchen, which hasn’t been in the showcase event since 2004, will be opening up the two day event when it takes on Union in the first game on Saturday at Harwood Arena on the campus of Kean University.
It is actually the first time that any team from the GMC is participating in this showcase event since 2004. In that year’s event, three teams from the conference: Colonia, South Plainfield, and St. Joseph’s all played and lost. Colonia lost to St. Benedict’s (78-58), South Plainfield lost to St. Anthony’s (53-42), and St. Joseph’s lost to St. Patrick’s (67-52). There will be ten games played over the two days this year with the likes of St. Patrick’s, St. Anthony’s, Lincoln (New York), Linden, Don Bosco Prep, Ridge, CBA, Science, Plainfield, The Hun School, Shabazz, Neptune, Columbia, and Seton Hall Prep all competing. - CBA vs. Newark Science, 6:40 PM
GMC Hoops will try to cover this event, but may not be able to for the first time since starting coverage back in 2002.
