Former TCS Standout Joining Forces with Stevens’ Crawford in Helping Lions to Improve

NORTH BRANCH, NJ–Former J.P. Stevens standout, Marvin Crawford is not the only one representing the GMC at Raritan Valley Community College. The Lions are also getting contributions from former Timothy Christian hoops standout, Kristian Svendsen. After playing and starting in 22 of the team’s 24 games last year, Svendsen has played in each of the first six games this year including two starts. Following a 10-14 campaign in 2012-13 that included a loss at home to Lackawanna College covered by GMC Hoops, the Lions are off to a 5-1 start this season heading into a GSAC showdown with Essex County College on Tuesday night.

Last season, Svendsen averaged 17.1 minutes, 8.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 0.8 blocks per game. He shot 65 of 138 for 47.1 percent including a blazing 27 of 54 from three point range for 50 percent. Svendsen shot 63.6 percent at the line while also tallying 129 rebounds and 18 blocks. He was fifth on the team in scoring, third on the team in rebounding, fourth in field goal percentage, and tops in three point field goal percentage, and second in blocks. His two best scoring games were against Salem County Community College (16 points) on February 16, 2013, and versus Montgomery County Community College of Pennsylvania (15 points) on January 10, 2013.

He recorded his only double-double of the season against Salem as he also collected 10 rebounds in that contest. His season high in boards was accomplished against Essex County College (12 rebounds) on December 4, 2012. Svendsen also grabbed 11 rebounds in a loss to Bergen County Community College on January 13, 2013. He also swatted away a season high three blocks in a loss at Lackawanna on January 22nd. So far this season, Svendsen has had more limited playing time with 8.8 minutes per game, and is averaging only a point per contest along with 1.7 rebounds per game, and an assist to turnover ratio of 2.0.
