Zebras Pull Away in 2nd Half to Defeat JFK, 69-47

Brown-Miller and Moore Register Double-Doubles in Win

ISELIN, NJ—Leading by only two, 25-23, at halftime, New Brunswick, ranked 3rd in the 2019-20 GMC Hoops Pre-Season Top 10, pulled away in the second half with a 44-24 surge over the final two periods for a 69-47 win over J.F. Kennedy in a GMC White season opener.

Senior guard, Ahyan Brown Miller, the 3rd leading active scorer in the GMC coming into the 2019-20 campaign with 1,167 points, led the way with a double-double of 25 points and 10 assists along with 7 rebounds while fellow classmate, big man, Tahjay Moore chipped in with a monster double-double of 18 points and 15 rebounds along with 6 dunks and 4 blocks.

Ny’dir Harmon also added 11 points while also collecting 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 blocks. Sophomore guard, Josiah Brown, contributed with 5 points, 8 steals, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds. Nadir Cassiem, who knocked down the game winning three in the closing seconds to defeat New Brunswick, 71-68 on January 17th this year, was a bright spot for the Mustangs with a team high 22 points.

With the victory, New Brunswick begins the season at 1-0 overall and in the GMC White while Kennedy opens at 0-1 both overall and in divisional play. The Zebras will return to action on Monday afternoon with a non-conference game against a possible Central Jersey Group 4 playoff opponent in Trenton at 5:00 PM. JFK will be back in action again over the holidays in the Hillsborough Holiday Hoops Tourney starting on Friday, December 27th.
