2010 Hoop Group Headquarters Fall League–Some Results–Week Five–October 11, 2010

NEPTUNE, NJ–On Monday night, GMC Hoops traveled down to the Hoop Group Headquarters to take in several games from the fall league there. It was the fifth week of action in this league, and the site got to see all three GMC teams in the league in action as East Brunswick and Cardinal McCarrick played in the 8:00 PM hour, and Old Bridge played in the 9:00 PM hour. The site also got results of three other games. Here are some of the results from the games played on Monday night.

2010 Hoop Group Headquarters Fall League–Some Results–Week Five–October 11, 2010

  • East Brunswick 45–St. John Vianney 44–Joe Ross sank a three pointer from the right wing off a side out of bounds as time expired to keep the Bears undefeated. Vianney had broken away from a 17-17 tie with a 6-0 run and held on to a 24-22 lead at the break. E.B. rallied though with an 18-12 run over the first 15 minutes of the second half to take a 40-36 lead. SJV then hit two straight threes at the 4:10 mark and 2:03 mark for a 42-40 lead. Anthony Guisti sank a jumper in the key to tie things up at 42-42 with 35 seconds to go, and then the Lancers took the lead on two foul shots with 6.9 seconds to go before Ross sealed the Bears win with his heroics.
  • Brick Memorial 42-Old Bridge 40–The Knights suffered their first loss of the fall as the Mustangs from Ocean County got a basket with one second left for the victory. Old Bridge trailed 38-32 with just under five minutes to go, and 40-37 with a minute to go, but managed to tie the game on one of two from the line with 9 seconds left. Brick Memorial scored 12 points off 10 OBHS turnovers, and was 5 of 7 from beyond the arc. Sultan Aminu led the way in the losing cause for Old Bridge with 11 points on 5 of 7 shooting from the floor, and one of two from the line as well as 7 rebounds, 3 blocks, an assist, and a steal.
  • Cardinal McCarrick 63–Jackson Memorial 43–Once again, the Eagles won easily with a strong performance in the second half as they outscored the Jaguars by a 35-20 margin including a 18-6 tear over the first 10:19 to take a 46-29 lead. Charlie Gorman connected on four three pointers and scored 14 points over the first 11:04 of the second half to lead the way for McCarrick, which kept paced with East Brunswick, and remained undefeated this fall.

  • Toms River North 35–Ocean Township 29
  • St. John Vianney 46–Wall Township 43
