GMC Hoops Game Notes–Trenton Catholic vs. St. Anthony’s–December 18, 2011

WEST ORANGE, NJ–Below are the game notes from the fourth game of the final day at the 2011 Hoop Group Tip-Off Classic from West Orange High School. St. Anthony’s got a double-double performance of 15 points and 10 rebounds from Jerome Frink while Kyle Anderson chipped in with 14 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and a steal to defeat Trenton Catholic, 53-33.

First Quarter

4:00–St. Anthony’s jumps out to a 6-0 lead.  Both teams playing solid defense.  

0:00–Trenton Catholic gets on the board, but the Friars still finish with a 6-5 edge over the last half of the period for a 12-5 lead heading into the second.


Second Quarter

St. Anthony’s continues to shut down Trenton Catholic with a 16-3 tear for much of the period to take a commanding 28-8 lead before the Iron Mikes hit a three pointer to close the gap to 28-11 at the half.


Third Quarter

St. Anthony’s reserves see some action with both Kyle Anderson and Jerome Frink on the bench for significant stretches of the period.  Trailing 36-14 early on the period, Trenton Catholic takes advantage with a 13-0 run that includes a three pointer from the right wing, a three point play, and two free throws to pull within single digits again at 36-27.  The Friars would settle down though with two of the final three points of the quarter for a 38-28 lead heading into the fourth.


Fourth Quarter

3:01–St. Anthony’s timeout–The Friars have reasserted themselves with a 9-0 spurt to open the period, and an 11-1 tear that included Anderson’s first points of the second half, and a key offensive rebound and putback attempt off a missed foul shot from Anderson by Frink that drew a foul and resulted in two free throws.  Hallice Cooke connected on a three pointer from the right wing to essentially put the game out of reach.

1:58–Trenton Catholic–gets its first points of the quarter on a three point play by Brandon Taylor for a 49-31 St. Anthony’s lead.

0:00–St. Anthony’s–closes the game with four of the final six points including two free throws by Anderson and a layup by Cooke for the 53-33 win.
