NOTE: GMC Hoops did round robin coverage of the 2016 GMCT Play-In Round. Four of the six games were covered. Some of these games overlapped. So, the highlights from this contest are only the first half.
Here are first half highlights from the action in the 2016 GMCT Play-In Round game between 25th seeded South Plainfield and 24th seeded Timothy Christian at TCS. In this Battle of Tigers, TCS jumped out to a 7-1 lead thanks to a layup and three pointer by sophomore Pierce Kokosinski. However, South Plainfield took control with a 21-7 surge for a 22-14 lead en route to a 32-20 halftime lead en route to a 67-55 win.
Football standout, Pat Waldrop got SPHS going with all 8 of his points including two threes in the first half, and then senior Lamont Williams took over by scoring his 9 first half points in the second on two threes and a conventional three point play. Williams added 13 more in the second half for a game high 22 points while forward Deshai Smith scored 10 of his 16 over the final two period. Waldrop and Jason Lee chipped in with 8. South Plainfield scored 51 of its 67 points in the middle two periods. Kokosinski finished with a career high 21 points including five threes to lead while Tyler Mixson chipped in with 15 and Will Clemmons added 11.
South Plainfield advances to play 9th seeded Perth Amboy Tech in the Preliminary Round on Tuesday.
