Metuchen Pulls Away From Manville; Dunellen Hangs Tough in Defeat to Bridgewater

BOUND BROOK, NJ–On Wednesday afternoon, GMC Hoops traveled over to the Bound Brook Recreation Center to take in three games from the fifth day of action in the 2016 Bound Brook Summer League. Three of the four GMC teams were in action as Timothy Christian, Dunellen, and Metuchen all competed.

In the first game of the GMC Hoops tripleheader at Bound Brook, Timothy Christian took on Immaculata, and the Spartans jumped out to a 50-31 lead with under 12 minutes remaining, and then scored 10 of the last 14 points for the easy win. Next, Dunellen took on Bridgewater-Raritan, and the Destroyers gave the Panthers a little bit of a battle before succumbing to a second half run.

Trailing 18-7 late in the first half, Dunellen, led by Anthony Buccino, rallied with a 15-6 spurt over a span of 6:44 to pull within two at 24-22. Buccino sparked the run with two layups and then helped cap it with two assists on layups by the Destroyers. Unfortunately, Dunellen was unable to get any closer as Bridgewater-Raritan answered with a crucial 12-0 spurt over the next 7:03 to take a 36-22 lead, and held on to win by single digits.

In the finale, Metuchen took on Manville, and jumped out to a 16-4 lead as Danny Flaherty scored eight of the Bulldogs points early on. However, the Mustangs wouldn’t go away behind some three point shooting and offensive rebounding. Trailing 23-13 at the half, Manville put together a 22-17 run that consisted of an 8-2 run midway through the half to pull within five at 40-35. Fortunately, Metuchen, behind Flaherty and Thomas Christine, was able to hold off the Mustangs for a double digit win. Below are some of the results from Wednesday action at Bound Brook:
