East Brunswick Falls to Ridge; Piscataway Rolls Past Summit

BRIDGEWATER, NJ–On Tuesday evening, GMC Hoops traveled over to Bridgewater-Raritan High School to take in action from the Bridgewater Summer League. Both GMC teams in the league, East Brunswick and Piscataway were competing while the night’s festivities kicked off with an All-Star Game as St. Benedict’s took on the Bridgewater Summer League All-Stars.

In the opener between the Bridgewater Summer League All-Stars and St. Benedict’s, the All-Stars took a 3-0 lead before St. Benedict’s went on a 12-0 run over a span of six minutes to take a 12-3 lead, and gradually pulled away from there for a 58-34 victory. East Brunswick’s Jesse Perel played in the game for the Bridgewater Summer League All-Stars.

Then, during the 6:00 PM hour, Bridgewater broke away from a tenuous 23-21 early second half lead with a 22-2 outburst to take a 45-23 lead, and cruised from there to a 54-31 win over Skyland Conference Delaware Division rival, Hillsborough. Meanwhile, the contest between Plainfield and Immaculata was much closer. In a low scoring game, Immaculata got the two point win.

It wasn’t easy though. After the Spartans made one of two at the line with 30 seconds left for a 30-27 lead, Plainfield knocked down a three from the left corner with less than 20 seconds to go in regulation to tie the score at 30-30. However, Immaculata was able to pull out the win by making two free throws with five seconds left for the 32-30 victory. The GMC teams then took over for the 7:00 PM round of games.

East Brunswick took on Ridge in the main gym while Piscataway battled Summit in the back gym. The Bears jumped out to an early 3-0 lead thanks to a trey from Gil Wyman, but Ridge then scored 15 of the next 19 points for a 15-7 lead, and eventually lead 25-17 at the intermission. The Red Devils then pulled away from a 27-24 lead with a 20-2 surge for a 47-26 advantage en route to a 51-38 victory. Wyman ended up with three first half treys while Eric Schneider and Tom Connolly also stood out for the Bears.

Meanwhile, Piscataway had a much easier time against Summit. The Chiefs jumped out to a 36-10 lead late in the first half, and led 42-18 with 7:18 remaining before scoring the last 14 points of the game to finish off a 56-18 victory. Cameron Saintil highlighted the second half flurry to end the game with a three from the left corner while Mattias Arrindell added two layups and Jordan Davidson chipped in with a reverse layup.
