Changing Face Of GMC Holiday Tournament Landscape

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ–On Thursday, GMC Hoops was taking a look at the team schedules, and discovered that there are a lot of changes this year as far as the Holiday Tournament scene goes. This year, there are several new tournaments including the following:

2009 Holiday Tournaments–New Tourneys

  • Anthony Cotoia Holiday Tournament @ South Plainfield
  • Brunswick Classic @ East Brunswick
  • East Brunswick Tech Holiday Tournament @ E.B. Tech
  • Hillsborough Holiday Classic @ Hillsborough High School

Teams participating in the Cotoia Holiday Tournament are: South Plainfield, J.P. Stevens, Perth Amboy, and Hamilton West. Teams playing in the Brunswick Classic are: East Brunswick, New Brunswick, North Brunswick, and South Brunswick. Teams competing in the Hillsborough Holiday Classic are: Hillsborough, Sayreville, and Woodbridge. The East Brunswick Tech Holiday Tournament includes the following teams: East Brunswick Tech, Morris Tech, Wardlaw, and Warren Tech.

Meanwhile, teams are changing tournaments. For instance, Old Bridge is playing in the Holiday Tournament up in Randolph rather than in the WOBM Classic in Toms River. Monroe has filled the void left behind by the Knights as the Falcons will be competing in that showcase event. St. Joseph’s is playing in the St. Pius X Holiday Tournament while Colonia is competing in the Ridge Tournament. The Gene Haley Tournament still has Carteret, Edison, and J.F. Kennedy, but it is being played at Kennedy this year. Highland Park is competing in the Shello/Santy Tournament along with Dunellen, Middlesex, and Manville.

Bishop Ahr is competing in the Roselle Catholic Tournament while Cardinal McCarrick is playing in the Joe Silver Holiday Tournament. GMC Hoops is currently working on putting together some of the brackets for these tournaments, and hopes to have everything ready by time the season starts.
