Former J.P. Stevens Standout, Crawford Commits to Holy Family University in Philadelphia

Former Hawks Standout Moves On To Division II School After Two Solid Seasons At RVCC

NORTH EDISON, NJ–After having two standout seasons playing Division II JUCO hoops at Raritan Valley Community College in North Branch, former J.P. Stevens standout, Marvin Crawford has decided to attend Division II Holy Family University in Philadelphia. Deciding between Holy Family and Queens College, Crawford selected the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference school, and joins Old Bridge’s Tyler Drews (Caldwell College), Keith Hughes of Woodbridge, Robert Ashamole of St. Joseph’s, and North Brunswick’s Jeff Ashamole (Georgian Court College) as former GMC standouts playing in the CACC in 2014-15.

Crawford accomplished a number of milestones this year. Averaging exactly 21 points per game for the Golden Lions of RVCC, Crawford scored 1,000 career points at the school. He also earned first team All Garden State Conference (GSAC) and first team all Region XIX for the second straight year. Crawford garnered the GSAC player of the week five times over his career at RVCC including four times this past season. He also was awarded first team All American Team DII Juco and Region 19 Player of the Year.

He ended up leading Raritan Valley Community College to a co-division championship (first ever title at RVCC) with Essex County College and Dion Rogers of North Brunswick in the D2 Division of the GSAC, and lost to the Wolverines in the Region XIX Division II Championship Game. RVCC had beaten ECC the first time the two teams met in December 2013. Crawford ended up averaging 21 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.2 assits per game, and was 29th in the nation in scoring. RVCC finished 20-7 overall including a 14-4 mark in both the GSAC and Region 19.

Playing in and starting in all 27 games for RVCC, Crawford led the team in scoring, was second in rebounding, and tied for 2nd in assists. He was also second in overall field goal shooting percentage (52.5%), and third in three point shooting performance (32.2%). Prior to college, Crawford played varsity all four years at J.P. Stevens. He led the Hawks to a 9-17 record his senior year, an opening round win over South Plainfield in the Anthony J. Cotoia Holiday Tournament, and a play-in round victory over South River in the 2012 GMCT. His first year at RVCC, Crawford began his ascent as a solid player. Despite the Golden Lions having just a 10-17 overall record including a 6-10 mark in conference play, Crawford stood out averaging 20.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 2.1 steals per game.

Crawford will be joining a solid squad at Holy Family University. Last season, the Tigers reached the CACC Championship Game before losing to conference power, Philadelphia University, which received the 5th seed in the NCAA Division II Tournament before losing in the opening round to Franklin Pierce (66-65). The Tigers finished 21-10 overall including a 13-6 mark in the CACC. One of the notable wins for Holy Family was a victory over Bloomfield College in the CACC Semifinals, which dethroned the three time defending champion, Deacons.
