Gigliello Changes His Falcon Feathers

Former Monroe Standout And Assistant Coach Joins Staff At St. Joe’s

METUCHEN, NJ–Last week, GMC Hoops learned, and on Tuesday night, confirmed that former Monroe High School hoops standout and JV coach, Matt Gigliello, has joined the staff at St. Joseph’s. Gigliello, who teamed up with the likes of Chris Felix, Marcello Henriques, Tom Woolfolk, and Mario Zygaldo to lead Monroe to its last playoff berth before Bob Turco came to town, coached the Monroe JV for the past several seasons, and guided the Junior Falcons to the East Brunswick/GMC JV Tournament Championship over Cardinal McCarrick in 2009.

This past season, Monroe reached the quarterfinals of the 2010 JV tourney before losing to eventual champion, Hillsborough. In 2001-02, Gigliello was on the Monroe squad that finished third in the GMC Blue behind that year’s GMCT champion, Carteret and Highland Park, earned a 10th seed in the 2002 GMCT, and qualified for the 2002 Central Jersey Group II State Tournament. It was the last time Monroe qualified for the states until the 2005-06 season when A.J. Rudowitz was a senior, and Bob Turco took over as coach.
